Did you know that advanced wiring systems originally developed for Space applications are now being used in Formula One cars?

As a specialist supplier to the European Space Agency and NASA, Tekdata’s Cryoconnect division has developed the wiring harnesses for one of ESA’s Herschel Space Observatory’s instruments and is also collaborating with NASA; developing harnesses for the James Webb Space Telescope.

Flat Woven CablesSince entering the Autosport market three years ago, Tekdata has transferred this space wiring technology into motorsport where it is far in advance of the technology currently available. One of the most significant benefits of Tekdata’s space wiring techniques lies in how the wires are bundled. Instead of using typical round harnesses, Tekdata have developed a flat, woven harness which provides greater flexibility when fitting the cable; consequently improving aerodynamics for the car whilst also saving weight.
