Eliminating connectors within a system or product reduces costs and increases reliability
Eliminating connectors within a system or product reduces costs and increases reliability. Many products rely on a 2 part connector at the ‘box’ or ‘cabinet’ wall to provide the link cables. By connecting directly to a pcb or similar, cabling can be strain relieved to its maximum requirement by using a feedthrough technique. See also Grommets
Feedthroughs or grommets can occupy a smaller footprint than a connector system.
The strain relief necessary for the application thus becomes independent of the wall connector.
Environmental factors such as humidity, water ingress, and proofing can be included (IP rated).
Can be used in conjunction with the header principle, whereby the feedthrough provides entry to the box and the ‘header’ lands the wiring where it is needed. See also headers
.Applications include high flexing, nanoconnect (sub-miniature wiring systems) and Cryoconnect.
